Addressing a town hall meeting in Kaduna, Governor Sani revealed that his administration inherited a substantial debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the El-Rufai administration. He lamented that this debt was significantly impacting the state’s federal allocation, with a large portion of funds being used for debt servicing.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Bashir El-Rufai criticized Governor Sani for surrounding himself with incompetent aides appointed for political patronage. He accused the current administration of deflecting blame instead of addressing its own shortcomings.
El-Rufai questioned the wisdom of Governor Sani in allocating funds for the construction of a banquet hall worth N7 billion while simultaneously lamenting about debt inherited from the previous administration.
He highlighted the irony of Governor Sani’s statements, particularly in light of his role as a former senator from Kaduna who lobbied for and approved the loans in question.
El-Rufai’s tweets have sparked a wave of reactions, with supporters of the governor defending his actions while El-Rufai’s loyalists have criticized Governor Sani for his handling of the state’s finances.
The exchange between El-Rufai and Governor Sani underscores the political tensions and divisions within Kaduna State, with both sides vehemently defending their positions amidst growing scrutiny over the state’s financial management.
