In a move to accommodate the Eid-El-Fitr celebration, the Federal Government has officially announced Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday.
This announcement was made through a statement issued by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, via the ministry’s official communication channel on Tuesday.

Dr. Ndayako’s statement reads: “The Federal Government has granted Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an extra public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr celebration.”
In conveying the message, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extended congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for successfully concluding a month of spiritual devotion.
He also reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.
The declaration comes after Saudi Arabia announced the continuation of fasting on Tuesday due to the non-sighting of the crescent of Shawwal.
Consequently, Eid-El-Fitr will now be observed on Wednesday, April 10, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month.
Federal Government had declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays in honor of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
