Following the attacks on residents of Adani in Uzouwani Local Government Area and Ikem in Isiuzo Council Area by suspected herdsmen, Frank Nweke, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 general elections in Enugu State, has condemned the killings and called on the government to arrest the perpetrators.

In a statement on his verified Facebook handle, Nweke expressed distress over the news, images, and videos from Adani in Uzo-Uwani, extending condolences to the families of the victims and the community at large.

He commended citizens for bringing attention to the attacks, emphasizing the shared responsibility of leadership and followership in addressing such issues.

Nweke highlighted the persistent attacks by Fulani herdsmen reported by residents and urged the government to prioritize the protection of citizens in its plans for Enugu State.

He criticized the requirement allegedly imposed by the police for farmers to “arrest” attackers or their cattle as proof of an attack, questioning the adequacy of such evidence in light of the lives lost.

Acknowledging the visit of the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, to Adani, Nweke called for concerted efforts to end the actions of terrorists posing as herdsmen in these communities.

He stressed the need for authorities to address the insecurity effectively rather than merely paying lip service to the security of lives and properties.

Nweke pledged to monitor the government’s efforts toward securing the affected areas and the entire state.
