The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced its invitation to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), to speak to over 20,000 legal practitioners in the country on strategies for nation-building.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja after unveiling the logo and theme for the 2024 Annual General Conference, NBA President Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, emphasized the pivotal role lawyers can play in advancing national development.
Maikyau stressed the importance of a shift in attitude among lawyers to address the challenges facing the nation.
He highlighted the need for lawyers to embrace their role as agents of change, particularly in light of Nigeria’s vast potential and resources.
The NBA President expressed admiration for Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s accomplishments, citing her as a fitting keynote speaker for the conference due to her exemplary achievements and status as a distinguished Nigerian and role model.

The theme of the 2024 NBA conference, scheduled to take place in Lagos from August 23 to 30, is “Pressing Forward: A National Posture for Rebuilding Nigeria.” This theme underscores the association’s commitment to fostering positive change and rebuilding the nation.
