Charles Idahosa, a prominent figure within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the representative of the South-South region in the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), has announced his resignation from the party.
Idahosa’s decision to step down from his position within the PDP comes amidst growing discord between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

While citing the pursuit of new opportunities beyond the confines of the party as his reason for departure, it’s evident that his relationship with Governor Obaseki has soured over time. Idahosa has openly criticized the governor’s leadership style, accusing him of neglecting those who supported his reelection bid in 2020.
Notably, Idahosa was among the earliest voices to denounce the disqualification of Governor Obaseki by the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that led to his fallout with the former governor of Edo State and the then National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Having served as Political Adviser to Oshiomhole during his eight-year tenure as governor, Idahosa’s departure from the APC alongside Governor Obaseki marked a significant shift in Edo’s political landscape.
In his resignation letter addressed to his Ward 1 in Ehor, Uhunmwode local government chairman, and circulated to key party officials including the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), South-South National Vice Chairman, Edo State PDP Chairman, and PDP Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government area, Idahosa expressed his decision to part ways with the party, signaling a new chapter in his political journey.
“I trust this letter finds you well. I am reaching out to formally announce my decision to resign from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and my role as a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT). As a representative of the South-South Nigerian region, this decision comes after considerable contemplation and reflection on my personal and political journey.”
“Throughout my tenure within the Peoples Democratic Party, I have been privileged to contribute to its vision and mission. However, after careful consideration, I believe it is time for me to pursue new paths and opportunities beyond the party’s confines.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the PDP community for their unwavering support and camaraderie during my time of service.
“I remain committed to upholding the values and principles that have guided my political engagement thus far. I look forward to new avenues of growth and contribution, and I extend my best wishes to the Peoples Democratic Party as it continues its important work.”
