The Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged Bello Bodejo, leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Kore, from terrorism charges.
The charges were brought against him by the Federal Government through the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
Advertorial
Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided over the case, dismissed the charges after the AGF’s counsel, Aderonke Imana, submitted an oral application for their withdrawal.
Imana invoked Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, and Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), stating that the decision was made in the interest of justice.
Imana explained to the court on Wednesday that the AGF had directed the withdrawal of the three-count charge against Bodejo.
The defense counsel, Ahmed Raji, expressed gratitude for the AGF’s decision and did not oppose the application. He subsequently urged the court to discharge his client based on the sections cited by the prosecution.
Bodejo was previously arrested on allegations of forming a militia group in Nasarawa State, a charge he has consistently denied.
With the court’s ruling, Bodejo has been officially cleared of all allegations.
