Adelani Adeniji-Adele, speaking on behalf of the De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, emphasized that the proposed Bill posed a significant threat to the aspirations of Lagos State.

He highlighted the lack of extensive consultations on the matter and stressed that assuming Lagosians desired to be assimilated into another region was unjustifiable.

Indigenous groups in Lagos have consistently advocated for the autonomy of the state, rejecting integration into any larger regional entity.

Adeniji-Adele recalled historical grievances, citing past instances where Lagos had suffered marginalization within the context of regional governance.

The statement underscored the need for a referendum to accurately gauge the sentiments of Lagos residents regarding their inclusion in any proposed regional setup.

It emphasized that Lagosians, descendants of historical heroes, were steadfast in their refusal to relinquish their autonomy.

The group urged representatives in the National Assembly to engage with elders, statesmen, and stakeholders before making decisions regarding the proposed Bill.

It emphasized that the issue transcended partisan politics and urged a comprehensive dialogue to protect Lagos State’s interests.

The statement reiterated the longstanding resistance of Lagosians to external imposition, echoing the rallying cry of their struggle during colonial rule.
