The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, announced the commissioning of 6,000 new soldiers to address Nigeria’s widespread security challenges.

The recruits, who graduated from the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria on Saturday, will bolster efforts against insurgency, banditry, cattle rustling, farmers-herders clashes, secessionist agitations, cultism, militancy, and vandalism across various regions of the country.

Addressing the recruits at the Passing Out Parade of the 86th Regular Recruits Intake, Gen Lagbaja emphasized the critical role these new soldiers will play in enhancing the Nigerian Army’s capabilities.

He highlighted that the recruits will undergo advanced military training to refine their skills and familiarize themselves with the Army’s weaponry and equipment.

The COAS assured that the Army is improving welfare packages, covering housing, medical care, recreation, and education, to ensure the soldiers’ well-being and career development.

He reminded the new soldiers of their duty to defend the nation, potentially at the cost of their lives, and stressed the importance of discipline, loyalty, integrity, and dedication.

Gen Lagbaja expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other key figures for their support of the Nigerian Army.

During the event, four outstanding recruits received awards for their exceptional performance, and 40 renovated flats were commissioned for soldiers’ accommodation at Chindit Barracks.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Kaduna State’s Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe, Emir of Zazzau Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, and other military and civilian leaders.
