President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have established the format for their initial 2024 election debate, scheduled for June 27, CNN announced on Saturday.

The 90-minute event will feature mutable microphones and will be conducted without a studio audience.

CNN detailed that the debate format, agreed upon by both campaigns, includes the use of uniform podiums, with their positions decided by a coin toss.

The candidates’ microphones will remain muted except when it is their designated time to speak.

No props or notes will be permitted on stage. Each candidate will be allowed only a pen, a pad of paper, and a bottle of water.

The debate will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, and will include two commercial breaks during which campaign staff cannot interact with their respective candidates.

Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, both prominent CNN news anchors, will moderate the debate, ensuring strict adherence to timing and maintaining a civilized discourse.

The agreement also covers a second debate on September 10, to be hosted by ABC.

The previous debates in 2020 between Biden and Trump were marked by significant interruptions and heated exchanges, with Biden at one point famously telling Trump, “Will you shut up, man?”

This debate format aims to foster a more orderly and respectful exchange between the candidates.
