Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has authorized the disbursement of over N467 million to settle eight months’ worth of salary arrears owed to academic, non-academic, and casual staff of the Enugu State College of Education, Technical (ESCET).

This decision marks a significant step towards fulfilling Governor Mbah’s commitment to revitalizing the state’s education sector.

The breakdown of the approved funds includes N384 million for 299 academic and non-academic staff members of ESCET, N69.2 million for part-time lecturers, and N13.8 million for casual staff.

The total amount approved stands at N467,061,600.

Governor Mbah’s administration had earlier allocated N158.78 billion, constituting 33% of the state’s 2024 budget, to enhance the education sector.

This allocation not only surpasses national benchmarks but also exceeds UNESCO’s recommended range of 15% to 20% of total annual budget for education.
