At least five suspected gunmen were killed during an attack on the Ishieke Police Division in Ebonyi State on Wednesday night.

The incident, which began around 9:30 PM, involved intense gunfire that sent local residents into hiding.

According to eyewitness reports, the assailants arrived at the police station in two vehicles and immediately began shooting.

A fierce gun battle ensued between the gunmen and the officers on duty, lasting over 30 minutes.

Reinforcements, including additional police units and the Army, were dispatched to the scene to help contain the situation and apprehend the attackers.

One source described how the gunmen continued firing indiscriminately as they moved toward Odomoke Ishieke Market along Nwiboko Obodo Road in the Ebonyi Council Area.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the police have so far been unsuccessful.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, could not be reached, and has not responded to messages at the time of this report.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
