Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, a former Chief of Defence Staff, has died after a brief illness.

Family members reported that he had been suffering from age-related health issues for several weeks before passing away at his home in Abuja early Sunday morning.

Admiral Ogohi served as Chief of Defence Staff from 1999 to 2003.

He was notable for being the first Naval officer to attain a four-star rank in the Nigerian military and the first to serve as Chief of Defence Staff from the Navy.

He hailed from Okura, Lafia in the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
