The Ebonyi State Executive Council has announced the approval of N2 billion for scholarships benefiting 597 students to pursue higher education in various Nigerian universities.

The decision was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engr. Jude Chikadiba, during a press briefing following this week’s executive council meeting.

Chikadiba highlighted that the allocated funds will cover tuition fees, research grants, and living expenses for the scholarship recipients.

“The state executive council has approved the list of 597 successful candidates to study in Nigerian universities under the State Scholarship Board. A total of N2 billion has been earmarked for this purpose, encompassing all educational expenses necessary for the beneficiaries,” Chikadiba stated.

He emphasized the prudent management of the research funds, ensuring that they are disbursed directly to the universities along with tuition fees to prevent any misuse by the scholarship recipients.

Chikadiba further outlined additional benefits for civil servants who meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship program, including study leave with pay and other privileges.

“In the realm of tertiary education, this initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to promoting academic excellence and supporting the educational aspirations of Ebonyi State students,” he concluded.

The scholarship program aims to empower deserving students with the resources needed to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to national development.
