The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday that a new curriculum for secondary schools will be rolled out nationwide by September 2024.
Speaking at the 2024 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja, Professor Mamman emphasized the government’s commitment to educational reform.

“We are working diligently to ensure that a new curriculum is implemented in secondary schools by September,” Mamman stated.
He added that the development of this curriculum has been ongoing for the past year, with a stakeholders meeting scheduled for August 6, 2024, to finalize the plans.
“It is our intention to have this program in place across all public and private schools by September,” he reiterated.

In related developments, the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission has expressed concern over the poor state of senior secondary schools in the country.
The commission highlighted various challenges, such as inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of qualified teachers, outdated curricula, and poorly equipped libraries and laboratories.

The commission has been advocating for collaborative efforts to address these issues and confirmed that the introduction of the new curriculum is part of the broader strategy to revitalize secondary education in Nigeria.
