The Federal Government has instituted a new policy prohibiting the admission of candidates under the age of 18 into tertiary institutions across the country.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, during the 2024 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Professor Mamman stated, “JAMB is hereby notified that there is now a ban on underaged students, those under the age of 18, from being admitted into our tertiary institutions starting from the 2024 admissions cycle.”
He further explained that the government is moving towards adopting 18 years as the minimum age for university and other tertiary institution admissions.
