President Joe Biden has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming November 5 presidential election, following weeks of mounting pressure.
At 81 years old, Biden has faced increasing scrutiny over his health and fitness to continue serving as President.

Biden, who served as Vice President under Barack Obama for two terms, had previously supported Hillary Clinton in her 2016 presidential bid against Donald Trump.
In 2020, Biden made history by defeating Trump and becoming the oldest person elected to the Oval Office at age 77.
Throughout his presidency, Biden has encountered various controversies, largely related to concerns about his health.

These issues came to a head after he suffered a significant defeat in a recent presidential debate against Trump.
Despite persistent calls for his resignation, Biden had resisted stepping down until he made the announcement on his X handle on Sunday.
In his post, Biden confirmed he would continue serving as President and Commander-in-Chief until his term concludes in January 2025.
“Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation,” Biden stated. “Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We’ve made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We’ve provided critically needed care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances, passed the first gun safety law in 30 years, appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court, and passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today.”

Biden expressed gratitude to the American people, crediting them with the nation’s accomplishments, including overcoming a pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, preserving democracy, and revitalizing global alliances.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden continued.

He thanked Vice President Kamala Harris for her partnership and expressed appreciation to his supporters and the American people for their faith and trust.
“I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America,” Biden concluded.
He announced plans to address the nation in more detail about his decision later in the week.
