The leadership crisis at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) in Awka, Anambra State, has intensified with the emergence of two Vice Chancellors.
The conflict began when the Amb Greg Mbadiwe-led council removed Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, who had been serving as acting Vice Chancellor, and appointed Prof. Carol Umobi as the new Acting Vice Chancellor on Saturday.

However, the university management has rejected Umobi’s appointment, claiming that no decision was made during the “failed council meeting.”
In a statement by the university’s Registrar, Samuel N. Ujoh, it was declared that the status quo remains unchanged as the council meeting ended without resolution.

Despite the university’s stance, the governing council insists that Ikechebelu has been replaced with Umobi.
The contentious council meeting took place under heavy security at the administrative block of the university.
Security operatives accompanying the Pro-Chancellor and council members attempted to enter the Senate chamber but were met with resistance.
