Four policemen were killed in an ambush by gunmen in the Irete community on Onitsha Road, Owerri, Imo State.

The officers were conducting stop-and-search duties when they were attacked.

A Point of Sale (PoS) operator was also reported killed in the incident.

Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the deaths of the four officers, clarifying that the number is not as high as initially reported.

This attack is part of a troubling trend of violence against security personnel in Imo State and the broader South-East region.
