Veteran Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress Onyeka Onwenu has died at the age of 72.
Reports indicate that she passed away on Tuesday night after performing at an event in Banana Island, Lagos.

The iconic artist reportedly collapsed after her performance at the birthday celebration of Stella Okoli, the owner of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, and was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Victoria Island, according to The Guardian Newspaper.
Her family has yet to confirm her passing.
Born in 1952 in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria, Onyeka Onwenu began her music career in the 1980s, releasing her debut album “For the Love of You” in 1981.

She became a prominent figure in Nigerian music with numerous albums and hit singles, including the beloved song “One Love.” Onwenu also made significant contributions to Nollywood, earning several awards for her roles in various films.
Beyond her artistic achievements, Onwenu was active in politics.

She served as the Chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture in 2013 and was appointed the Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development in 2016.

Throughout her illustrious career, Onwenu received numerous accolades, including the National Honors of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011.
