A devastating fire on Thursday morning destroyed several properties worth millions of naira at the Ladipo Baale Roundabout Plank Market in Orile-Iganmu, Lagos.
The blaze, which began around midnight, ravaged three shops in the market.

According to Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire started from a pile of planks due to a power surge and quickly spread to other areas. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated from a power surge in a pile of planks, which rapidly spread to three additional shops,” Oke-Osanyitolu said.

Responders managed to salvage a significant quantity of planks and other properties valued in the millions during the operation.
The swift and coordinated efforts of the LASEMA Response Team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigerian Police Force were instrumental in containing the fire and preventing further damage.
“No casualties or injuries were recorded in the incident,” Oke-Osanyitolu noted. “The agency’s Response Team, along with members of the Plank Market Association, also conducted public advocacy on preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future.”
