Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reported on Thursday that a police officer was killed during the #EndBadGovernance protests, which occurred in multiple states across Nigeria.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Egbetokun noted that several other officers sustained injuries and some police stations were set on fire by individuals posing as protesters.

“In response to the current situation, the Nigeria Police Force has placed all units on red alert. Our officers are fully mobilized and ready to respond swiftly and decisively to any threats to public safety and order,” the IGP stated.

The protests, which began on August 1, were organized to highlight issues of hunger and hardship in the country and have seen significant participation from citizens in various cities.

However, the demonstrations have faced disruptions, including incidents of hijacking by hoodlums in states such as Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina.

In an effort to control the unrest, some states have imposed 24-hour curfews.
