In a heartwarming show of solidarity, Nigerians have raised N1.8 million for Ogwu Chijioke, a protester whose 13-year-old son dreams of becoming a programmer.
Ogwu Chijioke joined hundreds of demonstrators on Thursday in Lagos State as part of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, expressing dissatisfaction with the country’s dire economic conditions.

During an interview with Channels Television at the Lekki Toll Gate, Chijioke detailed his struggles in supporting his son’s programming ambitions.
“I cycled here all the way from Mile 2, Festac. My son, at 13, is already a programmer, but I can’t even afford to buy data for him to continue learning. The tuition fees are in the millions of naira, and I simply can’t manage it. At 13, he can already create games,” he shared, holding onto his bicycle.

“My name is Ogwu Benjamin Chijioke. I’d rather die on the streets than at home. I can’t just watch my son’s future go to waste. I may not have a future in Nigeria, but I won’t let my son’s future be ruined.”

Shortly after his interview, the video went viral.
“You can feel his passion,” social media influencer Morris Monye wrote alongside the video he posted on his X handle. “He’s lost hope for himself but not for his son. This is why he protests.”
“Hi everyone. I’ve got his details,” Morris updated a few hours later. “We need N1.8m to make his son’s dreams a reality.”
In less than 24 hours, the crowdfunding goal was reached.
“N1.8m raised. Goal met. Crowdfunding is now closed,” Morris announced. “Thank you all for your generosity.”
