Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to offer condolences and support following the recent devastating floods in Borno State.

Obi, accompanied by key figures from the Obidient Movement and the newly appointed caretaker committee, including Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, Senator Nenadi Usman, and Dr. Yunusa Tanko, donated N50 million to the emergency relief fund.

During his visit, Obi expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive property damage caused by the floods.

The delegation met with Governor Babagana Zulum and visited several affected areas, including the Shehu of Borno’s palace, a flooded spare parts market, and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at Government College.

They encountered heartbreaking scenes, including a woman who lost her newborn twins to the floods.

Obi reassured the Borno people of the Labour Party’s commitment to aiding in their recovery.

He expressed gratitude to the Borno State government and other agencies for their efforts and extended thoughts and prayers to the affected families.

The statement concluded with a call for divine blessings and support for the state and its residents during this challenging time.
