With the Edo State governorship election fast approaching, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a stern warning, stating that voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be an endorsement of hardship and suffering.
In a statement shared via his Facebook page on Wednesday, titled ‘The Clear Choice for a Prosperous Edo State’, Atiku urged the people of Edo to reflect on the impact of APC’s governance across Nigeria before making their choice at the polls.

“Ask yourselves whether the APC has improved your lives or deepened your struggles,” Atiku said, expressing concern over the current state of affairs under the APC government. He criticized the ruling party for its role in plunging the nation into poverty, despair, and insecurity, claiming they have “sown the seeds of suffering” across Nigeria.
Atiku, who ran as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, also attacked the APC for failing to alleviate the hardships of everyday Nigerians.

“They once criticized past leaders for raising fuel prices, yet now they preside over a country where fuel costs have skyrocketed to over ₦900 per litre. Their disregard for the plight of the people is unprecedented,” he added.
He urged Edo voters not to be deceived by APC’s promises, positioning PDP candidate Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the clear choice for a prosperous future.
“A vote for Ighodalo is not just a vote for progress, it’s a step towards reclaiming our future and building on the good work of Governor Godwin Obaseki,” Atiku remarked, hailing Obaseki’s efforts in steering Edo toward a brighter future.

Atiku painted a stark picture of the APC’s governance, accusing the party of masking their true intentions and prioritizing power over the people’s well-being.
He argued that APC’s leadership had driven the country into a crisis where even basic needs like food were becoming inaccessible to millions of Nigerians.
“The APC pretends to be a friend to the masses, but in truth, it is a party driven by a hunger for power. Under their rule, Nigeria has suffered, with many citizens enduring extreme poverty, insecurity, and despair,” he said.

Atiku further criticized the party for silencing dissent and disregarding the outcry of the people, all while enjoying the luxuries of power.
Despite this grim assessment, Atiku reassured Edo voters that they could still reverse the course by supporting the PDP candidate.
He highlighted Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s competence and commitment to the welfare of the people, emphasizing that the choice before voters was clear.
“The time has come for the people of Edo to use their power wisely,” Atiku urged, encouraging them to reflect on whether the APC has improved their lives or made things worse.
He stressed that voting for Ighodalo would not only transform Edo but send a strong message across the country that Nigerians will no longer accept the deceitful ways of the APC.
Atiku called on voters to turn out in numbers, united in their resolve for change. “Let us come together on election day and cast our votes for Ighodalo, ushering in a new dawn for Edo State. The power to shape the future is yours—use it wisely,” he said.
