The Take It Back Movement has proposed a virtual meeting with the Lagos State Police Command, citing logistical challenges that make an in-person meeting unfeasible.

This request was communicated in a letter sent to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Intelligence Department, Jaiyeoba Joseph, by the group’s legal representatives, Inibehe Effiong Chambers, on Wednesday.

The police had previously invited key members of the movement, including National Coordinator Sanyaolu Juwon, to meet with the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, to discuss “issues of national interests.”

However, insiders within the organization raised concerns that a physical meeting might be a pretext for arrest.

Lagos State police public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the invitation, emphasizing that the meeting would be friendly and that there were no intentions to arrest anyone.

He also noted that the upcoming October protest would be part of the discussion.

In their letter, the Take It Back Movement explained that many executive members are currently outside Lagos, making it impractical for them to attend a physical meeting on short notice.

“Given the circumstances, we respectfully propose a virtual meeting as an alternative to facilitate the participation of all key members,” the letter stated.

The movement further suggested that if a physical meeting was deemed essential, they would be willing to reschedule for early October when all members could be present.

The planned protest on October 1, 2024, tagged ‘FearlessInOctober,’ aims to address various pressing issues, including the economic hardships faced by Nigerians amid rising inflation and fuel scarcity.
