Hezbollah confirmed on Saturday that its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a southern Beirut suburb.

Nasrallah, a key figure in the militant group and one of its founding members, was a dominant force in Lebanon and the wider Middle East for over three decades.

The assassination marks a significant moment in Israel’s targeted killings campaign, as Nasrallah had long been on Israel’s most-wanted list.

The Israeli military said the airstrike was carried out with precision on Friday, during a meeting of Hezbollah leaders at the group’s headquarters in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut.

Following the announcement, mourners in Beirut and across Lebanon began firing in the air to honor Nasrallah’s death.

In Baabda, a woman, holding her baby, expressed deep sorrow, saying, “Wish it was our kids, not you, Sayyid!”

In the Bekaa region, another woman, draped in black, tearfully rejected the news, telling al-Manar TV, “We don’t believe he is killed. We left our homes for him and the resistance.”
