Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has once again instructed police forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, to intensify security measures at designated event venues and along major highways as Nigeria prepares to celebrate its 64th Independence Anniversary on October 1.

In a statement released on Monday, police spokesman ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi explained that the IGP has mandated robust security strategies to ensure the safety of lives and property during the anniversary celebrations.

This directive comes amid ongoing concerns about potential protests and public unrest.

To guarantee a smooth and secure environment, the IGP has ordered the deployment of adequate personnel and tactical resources nationwide.

Law enforcement officers have also been instructed to maintain a professional, yet firm, stance while interacting with the public.

In his Independence Day message, IGP Egbetokun congratulated Nigerians and urged them to reflect on the nation’s journey, including its triumphs and challenges.

He emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s founding fathers and all those who have contributed to the nation’s growth and unity.

Reaffirming the police force’s dedication to upholding national security, IGP Egbetokun stated, “the Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to protecting citizens, fostering peaceful coexistence, and enforcing the rule of law.”

He added, “We are here to serve with integrity, compassion, and professionalism, ensuring that Nigerians can celebrate this significant occasion in peace.”
