Three suspected kidnappers, linked to the failed abduction of a Delta State lawmaker’s wife, have been shot dead in a confrontation with the Delta State Police Command.

According to a statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, the incident followed an attempted kidnapping that occurred on September 2, 2024, at Okoloba Junction, Jakpa Road, in Uvwie Local Government Area.

During the foiled operation, two mobile police officers and a driver, Mr. David Imela, were killed.

Following the attack, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, ordered a full-scale security operation, including the blocking of all major exit routes around Warri to prevent the kidnappers from fleeing.

The breakthrough came when operatives from the Ebrumede Division, led by DPO CSP Iwok Ndifereke, created a tactical traffic jam at the DSC Roundabout.

The suspects, driving a vehicle that matched the description provided, were spotted in the area. Upon seeing the police, the kidnappers opened fire, prompting a gun battle.

The assailants abandoned their bullet-ridden vehicle and fled on foot, sustaining gunshot injuries in the process.

Three AK-47 rifles and the suspects’ operational vehicle, with registration number WWR-436-GZ, were recovered at the scene.

Not satisfied with their escape, the Commissioner of Police instructed the DPO to intensify the search for the fleeing suspects.

Acting on intelligence, the police tracked the kidnappers to a hideout in Agbarho on October 3, 2024.

Another fierce gunfight ensued, leading to the death of three suspects, who were later confirmed dead at the hospital.

Another AK-47 rifle was recovered from the hideout.

A manhunt is ongoing for the remaining members of the kidnapping gang.
