The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rain across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.

In its weather report released on Saturday, NiMet indicated that northern parts of Nigeria would experience thunderstorms on Sunday morning, with moderate rainfall expected in areas like Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba.

Later in the day, more thunderstorms and moderate rains are anticipated in Adamawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Kebbi, Kano, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, and Southern Katsina.

In the North Central region, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are expected in areas such as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Benue in the morning, followed by similar weather patterns in the afternoon and evening.

The southern part of Nigeria will likely see light rains and thunderstorms in the morning over states like Oyo, Imo, Enugu, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Lagos. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected to follow later in the day.

On Monday morning, NiMet forecasts thunderstorms and moderate rains over Taraba, Gombe, Kaduna, Southern Borno, and Adamawa. As the day progresses, thunderstorms and rain are expected in Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Yobe.

North Central areas like Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Niger will likely experience light rain in the morning, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms expected in the afternoon across the FCT, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau.

Southern regions are expected to have morning rains in states like Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Rivers. Thunderstorms and moderate rains will follow later in the day.

On Tuesday, partly cloudy skies are forecast for the northern region in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rains expected over Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Gombe in the afternoon and evening.

For North Central areas, morning thunderstorms and moderate rains are predicted over Kogi, Kwara, and Niger, with more rain expected in the afternoon in the FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kogi.

In the southern region, light rains are expected in the morning over Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rain later in the day in Imo, Enugu, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Cross River.

NiMet also warned of possible urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours and advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas. The agency cautioned that strong winds might accompany thunderstorms, urging the public to take precautions.

NiMet advised the public and airline operators to stay updated with weather reports and forecasts for proper planning.
