After a prolonged delay of over 14 hours at Al Abraq International Airport, the Super Eagles have finally been granted clearance by Libyan authorities to return to Nigeria.

The Nigerian team had been stuck in Libya following complications with their flight arrangements, but following pressure from multiple sources, the Libyan government issued the necessary clearance.

According to sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, known as OgaNlaMedia, the Libyan authorities initially offered a pre-clearance for the flight to land in Benghazi before heading to Nigeria, but the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) rejected this, insisting that the team be allowed to fly directly home from Al Abraq airport.

The development was also corroborated by sports commentator Pooja Media, who confirmed via his X account that the team was finally boarding to return to Nigeria.

“Thank God,” he wrote, celebrating the news that the team and officials were finally on their way back.

One of the Super Eagles players, Bruno Onyemaechi, expressed relief at the situation, posting, “Me and Libya, I’m done. Nothing concerns me and them again. Thank God I’m going back.”

Earlier reports indicated that the Libyan government had initially refused to grant the Nigerian flight permission to depart and had also withheld access to aviation fuel, causing the unexpected delay.

However, after sustained negotiations, the situation was resolved, and the team is now en route to Nigeria.
