Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has asserted that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has become politically irrelevant.

Atiku, a former Vice President, recently praised the resilient citizens of Rivers State for maintaining peace and integrity during the recent local government elections.

In a statement on his X account, he commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his steadfast dedication to the people’s interests, particularly in upholding the integrity of the elections amidst various challenges.

He remarked, “With the conclusion of the local government election in Rivers State, the shadows of political intimidation and judicial chicanery have dissipated, paving the way for the noble pursuit of governance to commence in the state.

From the bustling heart of Port Harcourt to the tranquil shores of Onne, the populace has spoken in harmonious unison, affirming that nothing is greater than democracy.”

Atiku emphasized that the people of Rivers are astute and resolute, rejecting any form of political oppression or manipulation by self-serving elites.

However, in response to Atiku’s comments during a luncheon honoring the 10th Rivers State Assembly on Saturday, Wike criticized the former Vice President’s political track record, pointing out his repeated electoral failures.

Wike noted that Atiku had lost the presidential elections in both 2019 and 2023, implying that Nigerians have decisively rejected him.

He said, “We never contested the local government elections. Did we contest? Did we pick forms? I hear Atiku Abubakar saying, ‘Oh, they have rejected me in Rivers State.’ Assuming, though not conceding, that he has lost many times, Nigerians have also rejected him.”

He concluded, “If you say an election we did not contest indicates that Nigerians have rejected us, fine. You, who contested and failed woefully, Nigerians have rejected you, so pack up and go home.”
