In the midst of ongoing tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, chairman of the party’s National Reconciliation Committee, announced that the committee has successfully reconciled members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

He made this declaration following a meeting with NWC members in Abuja on Tuesday.

Oyinlola expressed gratitude for the outcome, stating, “To the glory of God, we have been able to resolve the differences that have been causing our party some headache within the National Working Committee.”

He emphasized the importance of unity for the party’s progress, asserting that the reconciliation efforts have paved the way for a united NWC.

While he refrained from detailing the specific issues addressed, he affirmed that the resolved differences were crucial for the party’s advancement.

When asked about the implications for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, he clarified, “That wasn’t part of our discussion… I have done my job, and it is finished.”

Attendees at Tuesday’s meeting included Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, and National Treasurer Yayari Ahmed, among others.

The PDP has faced internal strife, particularly after the suspension of National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade by the party’s leadership.

This prompted Ologunagba and Ajibade to counter-suspend Damagum and Anyanwu, leading to a stalemate until the PDP Governors Forum intervened, calling for peace and a return to normalcy.

Despite these efforts, uncertainty looms as a group reportedly aligned with Governor Bala Mohammed has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Zamfara.

The five-count suit seeks to compel the party to hold the NEC meeting on October 24 as planned, and to restrain the Damagum-led NWC from postponing it.

The PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been named as respondents in the case.
