Nigeria has become a partner country of BRICS, joining a group of 12 other nations in bolstering economic connections with the influential international alliance.
The announcement was made during the BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24, 2024.
In addition to Nigeria, the new partner nations include Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

A statement from BRICS on X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighted the addition of these 13 countries as partner members, not full members.
This year’s summit also saw four nations participating as full members for the first time.
The BRICS group, initially established in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC), expanded in 2010 to include South Africa, transforming the acronym to BRICS.
