A citizen of Enugu State, Peace Ogechukwu Odoh, has appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to immortalize the late Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah, a celebrated icon of Ogene music, following his tragic death under questionable circumstances involving a Police Inspector.
In an open letter to the governor which was made available to DAILY GAZETTE, Odoh emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Igbo-Jah’s death, urging the governor to take decisive action to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences of violence by security personnel.

She highlighted Igbo-Jah’s significant contributions to the cultural development of the state, particularly in promoting Ogene music, a traditional genre that resonates deeply with the people.
Odoh proposed that the state honor his legacy by naming a cultural monument after him, ensuring that future generations remember his impact on the arts and culture of the region.
“We must not allow his death to be in vain,” the letter stated.
“Your Excellency, I appeal that Igbo-Jah’s death be thoroughly investigated. Additionally, we highlight the need for security operatives to undergo on-the-job training to avoid history repeating itself.”
“Furthermore, Your Excellency, there is a need to immortalize Igbo-Jah or at least name a cultural monument in the state after him to commemorate the tragic history surrounding his death.”
“By immortalizing Igbo-Jah, we send a strong message that the state values its cultural icons and is committed to protecting the rights of its citizens.”
