The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the shocking murder of 48-year-old Michael Nnaji, originally from Amuri in Enugu State, whose body was discovered burned in the Amaka Ngbo community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night, and Police Public Relations Officer DSP Joshua Ukandu reported that officers were dispatched to the scene following a tip-off.
“We have launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made yet,” Ukandu stated, assuring the community that the police would thoroughly investigate the crime.

According to eyewitness accounts, Nnaji was shot twice by two masked gunmen who entered his premises on a motorcycle around 9:45 PM.
A family member recounted the ordeal, saying, “We were at the shop when the attackers arrived. They entered from both the front and back doors, shooting Mike as he relaxed in the parlour.”
The witness managed to escape when one of the assailants tried to capture him.

In the ensuing chaos, most residents ran away, leaving Nnaji alone with the attackers.
After shooting him, the assailants reportedly set his body ablaze before fleeing the scene.
Tragically, out of fear, no one came to Nnaji’s aid, and his body was severely charred.
Valuable belongings, including two deep freezers, a television, and various household items, were also destroyed in the fire.

Nnaji’s remains has been deposited at the Ezza Ngbo General Hospital mortuary.
Among the early visitors to the scene was Ohaukwu Council Chairman Ikechukwu Odono, who expressed his condolences to the grieving community.
