Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former Republican governor of California and star of the “Terminator” series, announced his endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, calling it the only way to “turn the page” on Donald Trump’s divisive politics.

The 77-year-old actor expressed frustration with both major parties but was particularly angered by Trump’s description of the U.S. as “a trash can for the world.” Schwarzenegger stated that such rhetoric is deeply unpatriotic.

With the November 5 election approaching, Schwarzenegger joins a growing list of notable former Republican leaders, including former Vice President Dick Cheney, who have chosen to support Harris over Trump.

“To someone like me who speaks with people globally and recognizes America as the shining city on a hill, calling it a trash can for the world is infuriating,” he stated. “I will always prioritize being an American over being a Republican. That’s why I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz this week,” he shared on X.

Since leaving office in 2011 after two terms as governor of California, Schwarzenegger has focused on issues such as environmental advocacy, small business support, and immigration reform.

In the wake of the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, Schwarzenegger condemned the event, comparing it to the Nazi Kristallnacht riots in Austria and labeling Trump a “failed leader” destined to be remembered as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history.
