On Saturday, Ukraine reported a significant overnight drone attack on Kyiv, with explosions echoing across the capital and other regions.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the assault resulted in damage and casualties in various districts of Kyiv, emphasizing that “the constant terrorist attacks on Ukrainian cities prove that the pressure on Russia and its accomplices is not enough.”

AFP reporters noted renewed explosions in Kyiv on Saturday afternoon amid an ongoing air raid alert.

Earlier in the day, Ukraine’s air force announced it had intercepted 39 out of 71 drones launched from Russia during the night.

The drones targeted areas surrounding Kyiv, as well as the Sumy border region and the central Kirovograd and Poltava regions.

The air force indicated that 21 drones were destroyed, while five returned to Russian territory. The drone assault was ongoing.

Debris from the intercepted drones caused damage to residential buildings and vehicles across four regions, including Kyiv, Sumy, and the Black Sea city of Odesa.

Kyiv’s military administration reported that debris from air defense systems fell in six districts, resulting in damage to flats and cars, and igniting several fires, which were later extinguished.

A police officer was reported injured in the incident.

In the Kyiv region, an 82-year-old woman sustained head injuries from shrapnel, while in a village near Kherson, a 40-year-old woman was found dead under rubble after Russian artillery fire, with four others injured, including three children, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

Additionally, a hospital in Kherson was struck, damaging two wards and a laboratory, but fortunately, medical staff and patients were unharmed as they had taken shelter.

Ukrainian military commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky warned that his forces were “holding back one of the most powerful Russian offensives since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.”
