The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive for all personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to wear black armbands for seven days as a mark of respect for the late Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The order, communicated by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, comes as the nation mourns the loss of the highly regarded military leader.

The gesture is aimed at honoring Lagbaja’s remarkable leadership, bravery, and his significant contributions to combating violent crime and insurgency across the country.

The statement from the police emphasized that Lagbaja was a “great leader” who demonstrated exceptional dedication to Nigeria’s security.

Lagbaja, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 56 following a long battle with illness.

President Tinubu has also directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast for seven days in memory of the late general, recognizing his invaluable service to the country’s safety and well-being.
