Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has strongly denied rumours circulating about his sexual orientation, following claims made in a recent blog post that several Nigerian celebrities, including him, are gay.
The blog’s list of alleged gay celebrities caused an uproar on social media, but in a TVC interview, Elliot dismissed the allegations as baseless and irrelevant to his life.
He expressed that he had more important matters to focus on than addressing the rumours.
He explained, “Why should I respond to something that doesn’t affect my life? It neither reduces nor increases my worth. People are entitled to their opinions, but for me, it’s not necessary to validate or deny such claims as long as I am making a positive impact on people’s lives.”
Elliot emphasized that he does not believe in living for public approval, and if someone identifies with a particular lifestyle, it should be within the boundaries of the law and personal respect.
He added, “Let me make it clear, I am straight. You won’t find anyone straighter than me.”
While acknowledging that some people may seek attention through such rumours, he stated that he did not care for them.
“Do what makes you happy, but do it within the law and with respect for others,” Elliot concluded.
