The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has suspended its chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman, following what the organization described as an “unauthorized statement.”

In a statement issued by Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Dalhatu, Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, and Alhaji Murtala Aliyu, Secretary General, the ACF clarified that Osuman’s comments regarding the North’s support for a northern presidential candidate in 2027 were made without consulting the forum’s leadership or members.

The statement emphasized that Osuman’s remarks were his personal opinion and did not reflect the official position of the ACF.

The ACF’s statement read, “The attention of the Arewa Consultative Forum has been drawn to widely reported comments made by Mr. Mamman Mike Osuman, SAN, Chairman of the ACF National Executive Committee, during a meeting of the NEC held on Wednesday, November 2024, at the ACF Headquarters in Kaduna. Specifically, Osuman was quoted as stating that the North would back a northern candidate for the presidency in 2027.”

The leadership of the ACF made it clear that Osuman had acted independently, without prior consultation with other ACF leaders.

As a result, the Board of Trustees and the National Executive Committee (NEC) jointly decided to suspend Osuman with immediate effect. Additionally, a committee has been set up to investigate the matter further.

The ACF has since distanced itself from Osuman’s comments, rejecting them outright, and reaffirming that the statement was a personal viewpoint, not the forum’s official stance.
