The Enugu State Government has praised the Republic of Finland for the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the leader of the criminal group known as the Autopilots.
In a statement released on Friday, the government described Ekpa, who is based in Finland, as a common criminal, con man, and terrorist with no genuine interest in the well-being of the Igbo people.
The government further accused Ekpa of being a murderer and fraudster, stating that he profits from the suffering of his own people.
It also expressed readiness to provide evidence of Ekpa’s involvement in atrocities against Ndigbo, to support his prosecution, whether in Finland or Nigeria.
The statement, issued by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, stated, “The Enugu State Government welcomes the arrest of Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based terrorist. His arrest and subsequent trial will play a crucial role in promoting peace, security, and stability throughout the South East.”
The statement also reiterated the stance of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, which has consistently labeled Ekpa as a dangerous figure who exploits the emotions of Ndigbo and contributes to the destabilization of the South East.
The government condemned Ekpa’s actions, which they claim have led to the destruction of lives, property, and the region’s entrepreneurial spirit.
Ekpa is accused of perpetuating violence and fear under the guise of fighting for the restoration of Biafra, while in reality, he has been extorting and manipulating the people.
