Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the formation of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to investigate the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The committee will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, at the Government House in Benin City.
The committee will be chaired by Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, with Anslem Ojezua serving as deputy chairman and Frank Edebor as secretary.
Other members include Kassim Afegbua, Patrick Ikhariale, Taiwo Akerele, Patrick Idiake, Rasaq Bello-Osagie, Fredrick Unopah, Abdallah Eugenia, Patrick Obahiagbon, Kenny Okojie, Lyndsey Tes-Sorae, and Abass Braimoh.
Governor Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, explained that the committee was formed to align with the governor’s efforts to foster development and promote accountable governance in Edo State.
The creation of the committee follows several calls for a full disclosure of the assets and liabilities of the Obaseki administration, which had provided only partial details during its time in office.
In line with the governor’s commitment to transparency, probity, and accountability in governance, the committee will seek to address these concerns and ensure proper management of state assets.
The inauguration will take place at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, at the Festival Hall in the Government House.
