The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) in Rivers State has officially begun processing crude oil, marking a significant achievement for Nigeria’s energy sector.
Olufemi Soneye, spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced the development in a statement on Tuesday.
He described the commencement of operations as a major milestone for the country, signaling a new chapter in Nigeria’s pursuit of energy independence and economic growth.
Soneye extended congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Mele Kyari for their leadership and dedication to the successful realization of the project.
“Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future,” he said.
In addition to the refinery’s start-up, Soneye confirmed that truck loading operations would also begin on Tuesday.
He further assured that efforts are underway to bring the Warri Refinery back online in the near future.
This achievement follows several previous delays in the refinery’s start-up.
