Disappointment As Former Okada Rider Who Won Rep Seat On Obedient Wave Joins APC
Donatus Mathew, a former okada rider who won the Kaura federal constituency seat in Southern Kaduna on the wave of the Labour Party’s success during the 2023 elections, has switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mathew, who defeated the then House of Representatives Minority Chief Whip, Gideon Gwani, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had garnered significant support, especially after unseating the four-term incumbent. His victory was celebrated by many in Southern Kaduna, with activists hailing the rise of a fresh face in politics.
However, the defection has drawn criticism, particularly from Stephen Kefason, an activist who previously supported Mathew. Kefason expressed his disillusionment on social media, saying, “This opportunistic okada rider, who used Peter Obi’s popularity to win the Kaura seat, has now defected to the APC. He has failed to deliver in the National Assembly, with no bills or motions to his name.”
