Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Uchenna Igwe, over allegations of gross misconduct and failure to perform his duties.
The governor disclosed the suspension during a press briefing, citing Igwe’s failure to oversee the payment of local government pensions by council chairmen as the primary reason for the decision.
This suspension marks the fourth within a week, following earlier actions taken by the governor.
On November 25, 2024, Governor Nwifuru suspended the Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. Chinedu Nkah, indefinitely, and also placed the Commissioners for Housing, Mr. Francis Ori, and Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, on a three-month suspension.
Additionally, on November 24, the governor suspended several top officials in the health sector, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, the Executive Secretaries of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency, all for a three-month period.
