The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a makeshift factory in Lagos Island’s Oke Arin market where counterfeit alcoholic beverages were being illegally produced.

Following a tip-off, NAFDAC conducted a raid, resulting in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of various counterfeit alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, and packaging materials

. The value of the seized products, which included fake versions of well-known brands, is estimated at over ₦180 million.

The main suspect, Tochukwu Henry, admitted to refilling bottles labeled as Rémy Martin with ST-Rémy alcohol.

He also revealed that he had employed two accomplices to assist in the illicit operation.

NAFDAC confirmed that all three suspects are currently in custody and under investigation.

The agency urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly during the holiday season, and to report any suspicious activities or products to their nearest NAFDAC office.
