The Senate has officially confirmed Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
This decision was made on Tuesday after the Senate Committee on Army, led by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua (APC, Katsina), presented a report following Oluyede’s screening.
The confirmation came at the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who sought the Senate’s approval for Oluyede’s appointment after the passing of the former COAS, Lt.-Gen. Taoheed Lagbaja.
Senator Yar’adua highlighted that the nominee had received clearance from the Department of State Services (DSS) and had followed the proper promotion process, making him fully qualified for the role.
