The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has expressed strong support for the federal government’s recent decision to dismiss civil servants who were found to have obtained fake degrees from unaccredited universities in Benin Republic and Togo.

In a statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Mr. Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Mr. Shedrach Sunday, TMV described the move as a crucial step in upholding President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to combatting corruption and ensuring integrity within Nigeria’s civil service.

“We are deeply concerned that many of the universities in question lack proper accreditation from either their host countries or the institutions they claim to represent,” the statement noted.

“It is alarming that some individuals would falsely claim to have earned academic degrees and use these fraudulent credentials to gain employment in Nigeria’s civil service.”

The group raised concerns about the quality of service such individuals would provide in their respective roles, emphasizing that legitimate academic qualifications should be earned through rigorous processes in reputable institutions.

TMV also criticized the practice of Nigerians seeking fraudulent degrees from neighbouring countries, often obtaining them in as little as six months to a year.

“We commend the federal government’s decision to fire these individuals, as it aligns with President Tinubu’s policy to fight corruption in all its forms,” the statement said.

The group hailed the government’s actions as a significant step towards sanitizing Nigeria’s educational system, ensuring that academic credentials are subjected to thorough scrutiny and verification.

They also stressed that tackling this issue is crucial for the country’s long-term development and the success of Tinubu’s economic goals.

“This move reflects the government’s commitment to the quality of education in Nigeria and its determination to safeguard the future of our children”

“Without addressing the issue of fake degrees, Nigeria’s drive towards becoming a one trillion-dollar economy could be jeopardized.” it added.

According to TMV, a knowledge-based civil service is essential to realizing the president’s vision for economic growth, and the dismissal of these fraudulent degree holders is an important step towards achieving this goal.
