A policeman, who killed a 17-year-old boy in Ozoro, a community situated in the Isoko North Local Government Area (LGA)of Delta State at the weekend, has been arrested and detained.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, on Monday, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, noting that justice will be served in the incident.

It was reported that policemen stormed the community on Saturday night and found knockouts (fireworks) in the 17-year-old’s possession.

According to @Sabu Daniels, an X user, who shared the information on the microblogging platform, the police officers had attempted to arrest him, but the boy tried to escape. This was when one of the police officers fired at him, killing him in the process.

He wrote: “The police in Ozoror, Delta state, shot and killed a 17-year-old boy because he bought an dshot knockout, and they left him to die according to eye witnesses. Angry youths took the body to their station their station and they chased them with tear gas.

“Worthy of note is that #EndSARS of 2020 started from this same town, when a police officer shot and killed one Collins which led to youths taking to the streets to protest against police brutality. That gave rise to EndSARS.”

When The Guardian contacted Edafe, the Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Police Command on Monday, he confirmed the incident and said that the policeman who shot the boy has been detained.

“The police officer is currently being detained and the state’s Commissioner of Police has assured that justice will be served,” the PPRO told Guardian.
