An Allied Air cargo plane, registered 5N-JRT, made an emergency crash landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to sources, the incident occurred due to a malfunction in one of the plane’s landing gears.
The crash took place around 10:05 am, involving an E-Cargo aircraft with six crew members onboard.
Casualties were reported, and the crew members were swiftly evacuated and are now undergoing medical evaluations at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit.
Emergency teams quickly responded to secure the crash site, with the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) and other relevant authorities overseeing the operation.
As a result of the incident, the airport’s runway has been temporarily closed, leading to significant delays for both arriving and departing flights.
Passengers and airlines have been advised to expect continued disruptions until further notice.
Efforts are currently underway by the airport authorities and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to remove the damaged aircraft and inspect the runway for any potential damage.
